The northern area of Sri Lanka is famous for the Palmyrah . This tree, like the coconut tree, is used for many things, especially to make delicious food. Named after this tree and the tasty food made from it, the Palmyrah Restaurant is conveniently situated at Renuka Hotel, where one can enjoy the traditional and mouth watering Jaffna Cuisine.

The Palmyrah Sri Lankan food Restaurant is well known and famous amongst international travellers and locals, for authentic and delicious Sri Lankan food for over 30 years. Set in an inviting and relaxed atmosphere, the Palmyrah is a culinary treat and is a must for all visitors seeking the authentic taste of Jaffna food. The restaurant is opened 365 days of the year.

Refurbished last year, the Palmyrah can host around 130 people, and is great for families. In addition ample parking is available. Soothing music is played in the background at a low volume during the course of the meal making it easy for the customers to talk, to relax and enjoy their meal in peace.

The Palmyrah serves a traditional Sri Lankan gourmet with an emphasis on classical Jaffna fare.

"It is very difficult to find Jaffna Food in Colombo and Palmyrah's main aim is to cater to the community with Jaffna's authentic food; because of this the chefs are all trained in the Northern way of cooking and preparing" the manager of the Renuka hotel said. The chefs use fresh meat creating deliciously satisfying recipes that have been passed down through generations.

The manager said that the Palmyrah has typical Sri Lankan food, but there is a good choice of western style meals too. Appetizers like Prawn Cocktail, Baked Crab and Shrimp Pan-roll, a crispy mini pancake pockets filled with spice-marinated minced shrimp are served before meals to build up one’s appetite. She pointed out that Palmyrah is one of the few places in Sri Lanka where items such as Hoppers and String Hoppers are available for lunch. The hoppers are crisp concave pancakes with a soft, fluffy centre, an egg is sometimes baked into the centre, sunny side up to make an egg hopper; or coconut milk is added to the centre to create a milk hopper .Thosai, which is the distinctive cultural breakfast of the Northern and Eastern people of Sri Lanka, is also available in Palmyrah.

Home delivery or takeaway options are also available while the Palmyrah can also cater for special occasions.

Open between 12:00 noon and 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.
