Koluu's - have a gay old time!

by mafi_moya

Koluu's offers probably the best value for money in Colombo. The food is excellent, the service friendly (if a bit slow), there's intriguing and colourful decor (fluorescent lighting!), and there's a great atmosphere and at night a lively cocktail bar.

When you walk in you're greeted by huge pictures of a fat man in drag. That's Koluu - chef, businessman, restaurant owner and general outrageous Colombo celebrity. He also has a restaurant called Frangipani's on Havelock Road in Colombo 5, which has a great outdoor dining area, but this one is the original and best.

I've priced it in the $11-20 price range but you can easily have a very good feed for less. It also scores bonus points as there are no hidden service or tax charges - the price you see on the menu is what you pay (if you've been in Sri Lanka a while you'll appreciate this believe me!)

Favorite Dish:
The menu changes all the time and covers pretty much every type of food imaginable from across Europe and Asia. Some of the stranger concoctions don't always work but most are delicious. Ever present on the menus are the steaks - both imported and local meat. Go for the local - half the price but just as nice.

Customer Satisfaction:
A Great Experience.

Tucked into a corner between the Holiday Inn and the new bar Glow, you can walk past it and not know it's there. Best to take a tuk tuk - ask for Koluu's, if not try the Holiday Inn.
