Mother of two commits suicide

A 34-year-old mother of two children committed suicide by jumping into an unprotected well following a heated argument with her husband.

This was revealed at the inquest held by N. K. Wanasinghe, Inquirer into Sudden Deaths in Mahagalboda Egoda Korale into the death of D. Wijitha Mallika of Kandy orchid farm at Thalatuwa in the Wellawa police area.

The inquirer returned a verdict of suicide by jumping into the well.

STF man commits suicide over love affair

A young STF constable attached to the STF camp in Manmune, Batticaloa killed himself on Sunday at the Gamudawa Housing Scheme in Hingurakgoda after he exploded a grenade grabbing his paramour, who sustained serious injuries. He was pronounced dead on admission to hospital while his 25-year-old paramour who is in a serious condition is being treated at the Polonnaruwa hospital.

The STF man, identified as Champika Mihiri bandara Ratwatte, is a native of Ipalagama in Kekirawa.

According to Hingurakgoda police, the policeman had a love affair with the woman for about one year after she separated from her husband.

The incident had occurred after the woman refused to go with him.

OIC Hingurakgoda police CI C. D. Madanayake is conducting further investigations.

Man dies after pouring acid on himself

A 32-year-old man committed suicide by pouring acid on himself in Laxapana on Monday morning.

The victim had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and had been lamenting that he had been cheated on by his spouse.

As a large crowd gathered outside his home, the victim poured acid on himself. "He was extremely stressed and kept on screaming that his life was over. The police was contacted immediately but it was too late," Laxapana police said.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries an hour later.
