Sujith Kumarasinghe alias Army Suranga wanted by police in connection with several crimes and a close associate of Wambotta was killed in a confrontation with police at Sevanagala in Embilipitiya yesterday.

A CID team had gone to Sevangala to arrest Suranga and another army deserter yesterday. After the arrest Suranga had told police he had ammunition stored at a farm. When taken to the farm Suranga had tried to grab the Chief Inspector’s revolver and shoot him. In retaliation a sergeant who was there had opened fire at Suranga killing him on the spot.
