National Heroes of a bygone era

The statues of three chieftains of the Kandyan kingdom, Kiulegedara Mohottala, Yalagamuwe Mohottala and Udamedura Mohottala who supported Keppetipola Maha Disave to organize the 1818 rebellion against British rule were unveiled recently at Watumulla in Walapone. Minister C.B. Ratnayake, who proposed to erect the statues in honour of the three national heroes, was the chief guest at the ceremony. The minister distributed certificates and prizes to schoolchildren who won essay and oratory contests on national heroes.
